History of South Jersey Federal Credit Union

South Jersey Federal Credit Union has been providing financial products and services to our members for more than 70 years.

Originally chartered in 1940, the credit union initially provided service to the employees of the New York Shipbuilding Company in Camden. Its name then was IUMSWA (Industrial Union of Marine and Shipbuilding Workers of America) Federal Credit Union.

Over the years, in order to reflect an ever-broadening membership, the credit union changed its name three times:

  • in 1955 to the Shipbuilders Federal Credit Union;
  • in 1973 to the South Jersey Maritime Federal Credit Union and
  • in 1979 to South Jersey Federal Credit Union.

Today, South Jersey Federal Credit Union has more than 500 Employee Groups and serves more than 40,000 members throughout South Jersey. Six full-service branch locations include the main office in Deptford, along with Camden, Voorhees, Moorestown, Vineland and Pleasantville.
