Celebrate Mardi Gras with a Free 'Jazz & Joe' Concert Deptford, NJ – (January 31, 2012) -- The first “Jazz & Joe” concert of 2012 in southern New Jersey, The “Jazz & Joe” concert will feature the cool sounds of the Alan Segal Quartet from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 601 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill. The free concert is open to the public, and is being sponsored by South Jersey Federal Credit Union and LPL Financial. Light refreshments will be available, and a free will offering will be taken. February 21 is the date for Mardi Gras this year. “This is our first ‘Jazz & Joe’ event in New Jersey in 2012,” said Alan Segal, founder of The Jazz Sanctuary (an educational charitable organization) and leader of the quartet. Segal’s group, along with a rotating roster of guest artists, is based in Pennsylvania, and in the fall of 2011 began offering concerts in South Jersey, after SJFCU initiated sponsorship of The Jazz Sanctuary’s concerts on the Jersey side of the Delaware River. According to Segal, The Jazz Sanctuary – from which the “Jazz & Joe” concerts are the most visible program – also fills a gap educationally. Donations and sponsorships help the organization offer music lessons and jazz training to area students.
